Multifunctional     Despite the demanding need to economise colleges and universities assert a responsible position for upcoming generations. Therefore the Technical University Berlin plans to turn a 345 sqm sized foyer area being in use as a storage space at present into a multifunctional and representative auditory. Not only it should serve educational purpose, but also provide space for a wide range of knowledge transfers. It should be a venue for conferences of economy and industry as well as for scientific symposia.

Beginn of planning: October 2003

The new hall opens up to the foyer. Its luminous functional arms raise the curiosity of the uninvolved visitor in the foyer. A coloured plasterboard wall loops into the space hiding a technical zone in the rear area. The wall also offers the backbone to the functional arms, the „light catcher", which evolve from the floor to the opulent roof light. Their folding form exhibition landings and projection screens, contain the sound insulation, the ventilation, the loudspeakers and the light system and above all they frame the ephemeral effect of the Light Flower as the centrepiece of the new multifunctional room.
