| Kindergarten“Tree
of Dreams” Following the take-over
by the institution of the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund the day-care centre
received its new name and a new inhabitant: the Tree of Dreams. The
Tree of Dreams quickly settled down with the children and is now their
companion and playmate. His Trunk World sprawls along the ground floor.
It is impressive and massive. The trunk encloses you from all sides
and gives you the feeling of security. The Dream Blossoms grow out of
the trunk and the children can snuggle themselves into them. Above the
blossoms grows the Leaves’ World. The mirrored silver leaves magically
reflect rays of sunlight into the darker Trunk World. Beginn of planning: 2004, completion: July 2005, total building costs 47.000 € |

Prototypes Inspired by the children’s desires and imaginations the “Baupiloten” first developed sensory perceptions and then a tangible architecture. It transforms the structure, presence and perception of the long dark halls and the atrium and stimulates the children’s imagination. The architecture of the kindergarten was researched and developed using 1:1 prototypes, which were life sized and equiped with the actual sensual qualities. These prototypes were then tried and tested by the children and became the starting point for the dialogue with experts, artists and craftsmen and thus the realisation of the Tree of Dreams. |
