Servicing an unserviced cabin on an unserviced island
We were invited to design and build additions to a small vacation house in the Gulf Island of British Columbia, Canada.
The initial brief called for in particular a mudroom, easier access to a loft for sleeping and the addition of an
airtight wood burning stove, but it needed more: the alignment of accumulating chaos. A seemingly endless list of storage
requirements and a 1:100 sketch model led us to the development of a linear armature of servicing bays. This strategy enabled
us to decant the cabin, provide ample space for the present storage needs and – most importantly- set up a logic, which would
define future additions.
