A light textile roof is intended to give the schoolyard of the Schadow Gymnasium in Berlin protection from the weather. A cloud has been caught up in the yard of the brick building (1914) by Paul Mebes, where there once existed a pergola. The cloud fractures the regular classical details from the building, catches sunlight and swirls it up into a glaring sea of waves. The textile structure is created in two layers: The pockets in-between catch and disperse the light to direct it in the schoolyard. It offers the necessary weather protection, an ever-changing interplay with shadow and light, sky and cloud and makes the schoolyard attractive in all seasons. Planning: April to September 2005 |
