House for Music and Fitness Lovers, House 11, Siegmunds Hof

Student residence, Conversion and energy efficient renovation, 2013-15

In the fourth construction phase at Student Residence Siegmunds Hof, House 11 is being energetically renovated and modernised. An extensive participatory process forms the basis of the design.

House for Music and Fitness Lovers

Golden light pours from the basement windows and the building appears to levitate. Behind the windows, a bright fi tness room with a mirrored wall as well as a sauna and outdoor area sheltered by a huge “living room” lamp complement the other facilities in the complex. New entrance stairs and light wells lead to an interior hallway illuminated with bright pink light, and into the practice room. There one can rehearse in a “Music Box” alone or with a full band. The next fl oor is split into two units of single student bedrooms with new communal kitchens and bathrooms. The roof terrace is open to all of the building’s residents and offers views across the green spaces. Here one can enjoy the view of the Spree River down below or relax in the central lounge of the “Golden Girls” shared apartment. The building is located directly on the river and is surrounded by a small forest and meadow with a BBQ area, beach volleyball court, and table tennis tables. Siegmunds Hof‘s honey is even produced here.
