Sport-Play-Learn Landscape

Learning Centre in Weingarten

The architectural concept “Sport-Play-Learn Landscape” derives from the reciprocating pedagogic principles of “Sport and Move”, “Social and individual learning” and “Language and Culture” advocated in the Adolf-Reichwein School. It offers children differing interior and exterior spaces, which enable and support the pedagogic approach.

A new Learning Centre will be created by extending the existing primary school to accommodate a new after-school area and Kindergarten. The new addition mediates between the adjacent park and city. A rectangular building is punctuated with two courtyards which permeate the enclosing interior spaces. The “Public Square” courtyard, with seating areas and trees, is the main entrance to the Learning Centre and serves as a meeting point and space for events. The neighboring “Play Yard” is a naturally enclosed play area for the kindergarten with a large ramp connecting to the roof area.
