Hellwinkel School
Elementary school, Conversion, school design consultancy, 2012-16
Hellwinkel School Wolfsburg is planning to modernise its existing building, which dates back to the 60s. After the vocational school left the building complex, Hellwinkel School became a pure Primary school providing all-day operation. Therefore a new educational concept for running the school was developed. Modernisation aims at creating a stronger link between the new educational concept and the school’s architecture. In cooperation with employees and pupils of Hellwinkel School, Susanne Hofmann Architekten BDA and Die Baupiloten have devloped ideas for a new design. The process of letting the builder family participate was developed and directed by Susanne Hofmann Architekten BDA. At TU Berlin’s department Die Baupiloten, a design seminar titled „visionary typologies for school construction“, organised in cooperation with FG Rückert, offered students of architecture the opportunity to develop concepts for this modernisation together with pupils.
